West Ashley
West of the Charleston peninsula, across the Ashely River- West Ashley is Charleston's oldest suburb!
West Ashley was the site of the first European settlement in the state. In 1670 English settlers stepped ashore on what is now Charles Towne Landing. During the 18th & 19th centuries plantations including Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Middleton Place, and Drayton Hall, populated the river.
Its original neighborhoods were developed in the 1950's but the largest growth occurred between the 1970's & 80's.
Connected to the Charleston peninsula by a draw bridge, West Ashely is a charming area filled with unique restaurants and shopping as well as big box retailers. West Ashely is ideal for big and single families, retirees, and young millennial's. Its easy to feel right at home!
